Psychodynamic Therapy
Psychodynamic therapy focuses on exploring past experiences, relationships, and formative beliefs. You may have heard of the term “unconscious thoughts”, or thoughts outside of your awareness, in reference to psychodynamic therapy. Psychodynamic therapists aim to help you understand yourself better as a person, by bringing to attention patterns you may be reliving and developing insights about your behaviours. The goal of psychodynamic therapy is develop self-awareness about your past, and how feel more prepared for your future.
Benefits of psychodynamic therapy include decreased anxiety and depression, processing past trauma, understanding attachment wounds, and coping with chronic illness. Other concerns for which psychodynamic therapy can be effective include eating disorders, personality disorders, and somatic disorders. This approach promotes deep, lasting change, and therapy progress can be expected to be longer as a result.
Techniques used in psychodynamic therapy can range from dream analysis to pattern detection. In sessions with our therapists, you can expect a collaborative approach. If there is a technique you open to trying, our therapists are trained to guide you through the intervention. Our team is dedicated to helping you find the right approach depending on your needs, whether it is increased understanding of your experiences or the ability to manage difficult emotions.
